He was predeceased by: his parents, Earle Thompson and Rose Thompson (Blakney); and his siblings, Barb Mills, Clyde, Bill and Merville Thompson.

He is survived by: his wife Eleanor (Hinxman); his children, Sheralee Hedden (David) of Sherwood Park, AB, Janet Wright (Gary) of Drayton Valley, AB and Peter Thompson (Thea) of Cambridge, NS.; his grandchildren, Carly, Becky, Maggie, Amy and Kevin; and his great grandchildren, Charlie, Fallon and Sidney.
