He was predeceased by: his parents, Sterling and Verna; and his brother Merlin Stairs (Harriet). He is survived by: his wife Bernita Stairs; his children, Tim Stairs (Heather), Matt Stairs (Lisa) and Martha Kennedy (Maro); his stepdaughter Monica Nissen (Stephen); his siblings, Neil Stairs (late Rosalee), Stella Corey (Vernon), Jean McVicar (late Neil) and Carole Drost (Ivan); his friend Ernie; his brother-in-law Ivan; and also Harpergrow. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donations may be made in Wendell's name to the Canadian Lung Association or the Cancer Research Society for those who wish to remember him.
