He was predeceased by: his parents, Norma Kay (Bickerton) and Robert Kay; and his sister Joyce Rendell. He is survived by: his sons, Boyd (Joanne) and Gregory (Susan); his grandchildren, Ryan Kay (Suzanne Jones), Sarah Kay (Marcus Mitton), Brady Kay and Dillon Kay; his stepgrandchildren, Meghan Bolhuis (Phil Bolhuis), Ian Hicks (Nenagh Hathaway), Alicia Jones and MacKenzie Jones; his great grandchildren, Blake Kay, Sawyer Kay, Grace Mitton and Mason Mitton; and his stepgreat-grandchild Romee Bolhuis.

In 2014, he was awarded the Canadian Home Furnishings lifetime achievement award honouring his exemplary and sustained contributions to the industry.
