He was predeceased by: his spouse Bettina Melanson (Betty); his parent Télésphore Melanson; and his siblings, Godfrey Melanson, Randolph Melanson, Yolande Melanson, Leonile Knapp (Lee) and Lucretia Noel (Lou).

He is survived by: his parent Ida Melanson (Boudreau); his children, Claudette Adamczyk (John) of Dieppe, NB, Marc Melanson (Helen Persson) of Boudreau, Suzanne Melanson of Moncton, NB and Paul Melanson of Ottawa; his sisters, Carmel "Carm" Thorne (late Walter) of Pickering, ON and Gerarda "Gerry" Staples (late Joseph) of Laval, QC; his grandchildren, Andrew, Jonathan, Jenny, Emma and Taylor; and also, LeBlanc and Georges. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
