He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Smith and Myrtle Smith. He is survived by: his siblings, Phyllis Killiam, Myrtle Campbell, Frances Zimmer (Garfield), Ranford Smith (Crystal) and Morris Smith; and his stepdaughters, Virginia Matthews, Bobbi-Jo Matthews and Angela Saulnier. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations in Alfred's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Friends of the Moncton Hospital.
