He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert McElroy and Stella McElroy (McNeil); his son Robert; his brother Lloyd; and his nephews, Randy and Mark.

He is survived by: his children, Stephanie of Woodstock, NB and John Ray; his grandchildren, Brayden, Chelsea, Mason, Malika, Maddison, Mya, Zoe, Wyatt, Declan and Grady; his siblings, Reg (Linda), David (Carol), Sue (Phil), Shirley (Rick), Peggy, Debbie and Kelly (John); and his sister-in-law Linda.
