He was predeceased by: his parents, John Garland and Margaret Garland (Taylor); his former wife Edna Garland; his son Selby; and his stepson Jeremy Bennett.
He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Garland of Hampton, NB; his siblings, Jim Garland (Anne), Eric Garland (Marlene) and Judy Murray; his children, Ceicilanne Mills, Ralph Garland (Paula), Kim Griffin (Tim), Jack Garland (Loney), Tammy Price, Kathey Rankine, Hank Garland (Darlene) and Chrissy Bennett; and his grandchildren, Tasha, Jason, Josh, Noah, Jessie, Ainsely, Miles, Tova, Bianca, Justin, John, Drew, Sumner, Emmerson, Matt, Mandy, Selby, Roxy, Billie Jo, Jr., Katie and Gracie. He is also survived by 37 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
