He is survived by: his wife Heather (MacDiarmid); his daughter Laura Vail (Tom Patterson); his granddaughters, Alice, Winnie and Pearl; his sisters, Penny Dunbar (Doug) and Candy Lambert (Mark); and his sons, Geoff Vail (Emily) and Mike Vail (Jean). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
