He was predeceased by: his parents, Edison Whalen and Hilda Whalen (Gillespie); and his siblings, Terry Whalen, Jacqueline Donovan and Anne Blacquier.

He is survived by: his wife Heather Whalen (Murphy); his daughters, Penny Finnamore (Allan) of Fredericton, Judie Acquin (late Stan) of Penniac and Angee Acquin of St. Mary's; his grandchildren, Blake, Rob Finnamore, Autumn Acquin-Harris, Bronson Acquin-Mandisodza and Olivia Steen; and his sisters, Marlene Hummerstone (Fred) and Dorene Gamblin (Roland). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
