Frank Lawson wrote a sympathy message

“I was sorry to learn of Joe's passing. He was an unique individual, so personable and with so many different interests. I always looked forward to hearing of his latest exploits each time we met. Joe represented the Royal Canadian Legion at a celebration I organized that was held at Grand Falls in 2015 for one of our common ancestors, Pvt. Henry Merritt (c.1790-1866), a veteran of the War of 1812. My deepest sympathy to his loved ones. Sincerely, Frank Lawson”
