He was loved and cherished by many people including: his close friends, Pamela (Phil Mosher), Charles (Nathalie Fortin), Peter (Jennifer Klassen), Alison (Terry Higgins) and Thomas; his grandchildren, Andrea and Sarah (Enrico Vallis); his parents, William Thomas Greer and Ruby Clarabell Greer (Sparling); his former wife Gwendolyn Muriel Berry; his wife Merle Gweneth Anthony; his daughters, Jo-Ann (Brien Whalen) and Sandra; and his family, Ron, Adele and Dorothy. He was also cherished by his five children, two stepdaughters, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Alan then became a volunteer worker at the Bayview until 2020, when COVID effectively shut down the volunteer programme.
