He was predeceased by: his former wife Edith Sheppard Boggs; his son James; his stepson Bobby; and his siblings, Helen, Edith and Alex.

He is survived by: his close friend Margaret Brown; his children, Jamesina, Marie, Annie, Joan (Durlin), Peggy (Carl), Kathy (Walter), Allan (Tracey), Richard (Tracey), John (Betty) and Diane; his close friend Freda Smith; and his brothers, Robert (Joyce) and William (Karen). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
