He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles H. Gilbert and Verlie Barclay Gilbert; his son Stephen (Nancy); his granddaughter Lori; and his wife Joyce (Gordon).

He is survived by: his children, Gail Fitzpatrick (Eddy), June Harris (Stan), Mike (Suzanne), Allen, Gerry Gilbert and Keays; his grandchildren, Todd, Kelly, Angela, Robyn, Charles, Jonathan, Robert and Jason; and his great grandchildren, Ryan, Kara, Joseph, Samuel, Darcy, Ada, Jordyn, Elizabeth, James, Kayleigh, Theo and Sally.
