He was predeceased by: his mother Pauline Carroll. He is survived by: his father Herb Despres of Bouctouche; his wife Joanne Despres (Allain); his son James (Hélène) of Shediac; and his sisters, Dianne Despres of Dieppe and Lynn Despres of Bedford, NS. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins as well as all his close friends.

In Paul's memory, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Dr Marguerite Michaud School, music department.
