He was predeceased by: his parents, John McDonnell and Kathleen Dewitt (Young); his brother Lindsay McDonnell; his nephew Chris McDonnell; his sister Patricia Boucher; and his nephew Corey Boucher.

He is survived by: his sons, Joshua McDonnell and Dylan McDonnell; his grandson Alexander McDonnell; and his siblings, Debbie Goudreau (Phil), Jo-Anne Hache, Frank McDonnell and Michael Guitard-McDonnell (Marilyn). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
