He was predeceased by: his parents, Nehamiah DeMerchant and Eileen DeMerchant (Smith); his sisters, Sheila MacDougall and Gloria Denny; and his nephews, Keith MacDougall and Danny Denny.

He is survived by: his children, Debbie Witmer, Sharon Ouellette (Johnny), Brian DeMerchant (Susan) and Carl Jr. DeMerchant (Heather); his grandchildren, Brian, Bobby, Ashley, John Paul, Jason, Jordan, Alex and Emma; his great grandchildren, Eva, Allison, Ceiara, Auroa, Tyler and Brenna; his siblings, Gary (Margaret), Brian, Joe, Beatrice Giberson, Donna Sherwood, Bev Arlow and Jean Bristow (Ken); and his brothers-in-law, Leo Denny and Ronald MacDougall. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family.
