He was predeceased by: his wife Florence Matheson (Leavitt); his parents, George Arthur and Cora Mae Matheson (Cook); his daughter Gail Gaudett; and his siblings, Nellie, Erma, Marguerite, Gerald, Henry, Peter, Kenneth and Frederick.
He is survived by: his children, Sarah Handspiker (John) and Ernest Matheson (Belinda); his grandchildren, Tamera Bremner (Jennifer), Angela Bremner, Lovett Bremner (Amanda) and Daniel Matheson (Marley); his sister Hilda Hanley (Ronnie); his nephew Murvin Matheson; and his granddaughter Mellissa. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
As keeping with Covid-19 restrictions, all services for Ernest will be private.
