He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Ute; his brothers, Hans (Rosalind) and Rolf (Sue); his daughters, Heidi (Duane), Annette (Dennis) and Nicola (Walt); his grandchildren, Raven, Nicholas, Sienna (Kevin), Zachary, Mason and Kaleb; his great grandchild Theon; his sister-in-law Rosalind; and also Rolf.
He was elected president of the Canadian Sporting Goods Association (1980 to 1983), who later named him an honorary life member in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the industry.
