He was predeceased by: his wife Janis; his parents, George Boonstra and Pearl Boonstra; his parents-in-law, John and Muriel Swinton; his siblings, Anne Haarsma, Grace Boklaschuk and Carl Boonstra; and his brother-in-law John Haarsma.

He is survived by: his children, Kim (Vince), Rob (Tammy) and Brian (Jackie); his grandchildren, Jenna (Erik), Stephanie (Nolan), Jonathan (Taylor), Emily, Chelsea, Jodie, Chantal, Madeline, Gerrit and Thomas; his great grandchild Emery; and his siblings-in-law, Pearl Boonstra and Ernie Boklaschuk. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
