He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Smith and Lillian Smith; his siblings, Audrey Stevens and Clifford Smith; his former wife Margaret (Peggy); his siblings-in-law, Audrey Muir, Diane, Eleanor Edmonds and Frank Edmonds; and his granddaughter Laura Peters.

He is survived by: his wife Louise; and his children, Greg (Tina), Grant (Nancy), Darrin, Deanne (John), Scott (Darcie), Shirlene (Waren), Barbara (Larry) and Jan (Paul).

In lieu of flowers, Howard and Louise have requested that donations be made in his memory to the new care home Dugald Place.
