He was predeceased by: his wife Joyce; his parents, Carl Swanson and Ruth Swanson (Johnston); his siblings, Arnold (Irene), Ken and Gloria Taylor (Herb); and his siblings-in-law, Earl Pryor and Margaret Caouette (Armund).

He is survived by: his children, Carl (Karen) and Diane; his close friend Catherine Eisthen; his sisters, Arlene Masson, Laurie Swanson and Marlys Mitchel (Gary); his brother-in-law Gordon Pryor (Madelaine); and his nieces and nephews, Mike Brown (Roberta), Joan Brown, Murray Brown (Shelia), Janet Maxwell, Dwayne Swanson (Karla), Karen Tanner (George), Carla Swanson and Laurissa Harkness (Aaron).
