He was predeceased by: his parents, Jenny Steidl and Gerald Steidl; his in-laws, Jack and Sharon Coote; and his brother-in-law Ian Coote.

He is survived by: his wife Colleen; his brothers, Gavin (Lisa) and Greg (Laura); and his sister-in-law Jeannette Coote. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Garth's memory, to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
