Donald Wallace Steer Obituary
it is with regret and some misgivings that I announce that I died on
December 15, 2021, in White Rock, British Columbia of old age. As I gaze
out over the wheat fields of Saskatchewan with a glass of sparkling
water, I reflect on a life well-lived and enjoyed since my birth at the
Steer Fundale Family Farm in Southwestern Saskatchewan in the spring of
1923. I was a good farm kid, a proud CAF Dispatch Rider (DR) Corporal
during WWII, and a successful Municipal Grader Operator, Weyburn Street
Forman and Machinery Salesman in New Westminster, BC until my retirement
in 1975. My fondest memories were coaching Peewee hockey and being a Red
Wings Hockey goal judge in Weyburn, enjoying the farm life, and of
course time well-spent with family and friends. My only regret is that I
outlived many of my senior buddies. It was my good fortune to have met
and married Sally in 1946 and think joyfully of the adventures shared
traveling and moving into different humble abodes over the years until
her passing in 2000. I remember the good times watching my three boys
Don Jr, Roger Ralph, and Stan playing hockey in Weyburn and Yellow Grass. I remember with pride the accomplishments of the boys, Don becoming an archaeologist, Roger an accomplished Technician, and Stan a successful fisherman. I enjoyed the support and acceptance of my
beautiful daughters-in-law, Lyn (Don) and Janet (Stan). I have been
blessed with many Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren and wish I could
have been around longer to enjoy their visits and company. Over the 98
years of my life, I have enjoyed the friendship of many wonderful people
and for that I am grateful. I have lived a long and good life and for
all of this, I am truly thankful. I have requested that there be no
services surrounding my passing but should anyone wish to remember me in
a future celebration of life with family and friends I would not object.
