It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Darrel James McLeod in Victoria, British Columbia, born in Athabasca, Alberta, who passed away on August 29, 2024, at the age of 67, leaving to mourn family and friends. Though Darrel James may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Darrel James touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Bertha Dora Villeneuve and Clifford James McLeod; and his siblings, Trina, Debbie and Travis.

He is survived by: his sisters, Gaylene, Holly and Crystal. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins.

In lieu of flowers, Darrel's family have established an Indigenous Writers Scholarship that will be managed through Camosun College.
