Apollonia Paula Wilkie Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Apollonia Paula Wilkie. She passed peacefully in her sleep on January 10, 2024. While we knew her time with us was coming to an end, nothing can prepare you for the death of a loved one.
Paula was born on May 25, 1930, to Bernhardt and Ottila Heitzmann in Kelowna, British Columbia. The youngest of 9 children and the only child born in Canada. Paula attended Normal School and became a teacher. In 1952 she married Douglas Robert Wilkie and went on to have two beautiful daughters. Paula and Doug traveled whenever they could, with their favourite destinations being Hawaii and Australia. After Doug’s death, Paula became known for her love of music and performing; from her immense music box collection to her time on stage with the Noteables. The Monterey Center became her second home, volunteering wherever needed and always ready to dress the part.
Paula lived an extraordinary life filled with adventure, laughter, and love. She will always be remembered for her spectacular cakes, her amazing rendition of Nancy Sinatra’s ‘These Boots Are Made for Walking’ and her ability to always be ready for a good party.
Paula is now free to dance and sing eternity away.
Paula was predeceased by her husband Douglas Robert Wilkie. She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Dan) McGowan, and Patti (Ray) Privé; grandchildren, Taryn (Scott) McGowan, Michelle (Chris), and Trevor Privé, Great Grandchildren, Pyper (Clayton), Riley, Kai, Flynn, Troy, and Kurt; Great Great Grandchildren, Oakley, and Tate; and many Nieces and Nephews.
