He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard O'Brien and Veronica O'Brien of Sydney, NS.; his former wife Eileen O'Brien (late Christa O'Brien); and his sister Joan O'Brien (Dave Martel). He is survived by: his sons, Paul O and Jerry O'Brien (Tammie Campbell); his stepdaughters, Julie-Ann Leach and Andrea; his grandchildren, Armea Secord (Derek Secord), Garret Leach, Cody Graham, Vincent Finnen, Jonah O'Brien and Lily O'Brien; and his siblings, Carol (Jerry Young), Maine, Irene (Charles Sampson), Cecilia (Tom Baybutt), Mary (Doug Marick), Theresa (Eugene Gale), Margaret (Patrick Kinsman), Rita of Vernon, BC, Elizabeth (Terry Muller), Cathy (Chris Fedson), Frank (Jean Thornlow), James (Beverley Donaldson), Leo (Jeanne Roberge), Joseph (Elaine Lewis) and Patrick (Helen Roberts).
