He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Werner Rathje, Gertrude Rathje, Robert Brown and Gerorgia Brown; his aunt Giselle Pomponio; and his uncles, Carl Barton and Buddo Brown.

He is survived by: his parents, Vernon Rathje and Georgia Brown (Missy); his brother Kiel Rathje; and his son Graydin Rathje. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In an unconditional act of love, Neil donated one of his kidneys to his son on November 25, 2009, at Children's Hospital.
