It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of John Arthur
Pousette.
John passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Monday May 7th, 2018 after a brief illness. John was pre-deceased by his parents John and Amie Pousette, and sisters Margaret, Shirley and Molly. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of 63 years and children John (Anne) Pousette, Anne (Mark) Ferguson, and Ruth (John Paul) DuMont, and 7 grandchildren: Rebecca, Daniel (Kelly), and Sarah Pousette; John-Mark (Kim) and Nathaniel Ferguson; Xenia and Joshua DuMont. John is also survived by his sisters Janet Reinhardt and Judy Pousette of Blind River, Ontario.
John grew up in Spragge and Blind River and graduated from Senior Matriculation in 1942, at which time he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. After discharge in 1946 he completed his studies at McGill University in Montreal obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce in 1949. He then headed west and undertook studies at UBC in Vancouver, BC; completing his law degree in 1952. While articling in Prince Rupert, he rekindled a friendship with Evelyn Hrehorka, a newly arrived teacher whom he had met while they were students at UBC. Married in 1954, John and Evelyn began a wonderful life together in Kitimat, British Columbia and then settled in Terrace in 1962.
John practiced law publically at Prince Rupert, Kitimat and Terrace and privately with Alcan. With Alcan he also held positions involving employee relations and was editor of the Ingot. In 1965 John became the Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Terrace and in 1969 moved to Administrator of Regional and Regional Hospital Districts of the Kitimat-Stikine, from which he retired in 1987.
Among the many leadership positions John held he is particularly remembered for his his work in and for the community which included: Alderman for District of Kitimat, Chair of the School District #88 Board, member of the Northwest Community College board, member of the Federal Fisheries BC Salmonid Enhancement Task Group, Chair of Board for Rough Acres Bible Camp, and Deacon at the Terrace Evangelical Free Church.
While John often found himself in positions of leadership, he was known for his humility, for empowering and encouraging others, and for sincerely caring for the welfare of all those around him.
The family extends sincere gratitude to all the physicians and nurses who provided care to John. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 12th, 10:30 am at the Terrace Evangelical Free Church. All are welcome.
