With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Jan Joostema (Surrey, British Columbia), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 13, 2024 at the age of 92. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He is survived by: his wife Johanna; his children, Ron, Earl (Maureen) and Tanya; his grandchildren, Janice, Austin, Nicole, Cameron, Chenoa, Halle, Bryce and Kai; and his siblings, Anna (Henk), Piet (Nel), Gerda, Truus (Ben) and Wilhelmina (Auka).

“It is with sadness that I’ve come to learn of John’s passing. I came to know John and Joan by way of Austin Cycle and the club rides. John introduced me to road riding and was a master at keeping my bicycle maintained. John and Joan always welcomed me whenever I popped by the shop for a visit. There we discussed everything from the Tour de France to gouda cheese, Sunday rides and love of our families. John will be missed but never forgotten, rest in peace old friend.” Dan and Annette Roy”

“Even though we have not seen one another for far too many years, you have been in our thoughts and often referred to...you were our first neighbors when we arrived at 166 Baltic street. I cherish every memory we have... while talking from the sundeck to our walks around Como Lake, how John would be standing on the stoop when we arrived home...92 years is a long life but not long enough when we lose the person we love...may the warm memories carry you through this sad time...
