He was predeceased by: his parents, Muriel Ashton and Jim Ashton; his son Brandon Johnson; and his sister-in-law Connie Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Carrie Johnson; his daughter Angelina Johnson; and his siblings, Ed Johnson, Linda Dowdeswell, Dan Johnson and Brenda Ashton.
He built and donated the model of HMCS Calgary Frigate which is displayed in Calgary City Hall.
