He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernardus Serné and Machteld van Woerden; his brothers, Bernard Serné and Walter Serné; and his half-brother Hugo Jan van Woerden.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Serné; his son Kenneth Serné; his daughter-in-law Wendy Serné; his grandson Mackenzie Serné; his sister Sigrid Boersma; and his sisters-in-law, Louisa Serné and Froukje Serné. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
