It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gerard Francis Xavier Matte in Nanaimo, British Columbia, who passed away on March 5, 2023, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Art Matte and Madeliene Matte; his children, Nicholas (Brian), Jennifer (Colin) and Christine (Greg); his close friend Lise Ferland; his grandchildren, Caleb, Erika, Noelle and Jude; his siblings, Michelle Nicholson (Peter), Kathy Cochran (Brian), Dennis Matte (Shirley) and Rick Matte (Sherry); his cousins, Gordon, Jim, Ted Bruce and Bob Cuthbert; and also, Mexico, Thailand, India, Singapore and Denmark. He was also cherished by spouse and child as the extended family.
Just before he retired in 2010, he was awarded the Peter Bennett Award, the highest honour in Canada for municipal IT leaders who have made an outstanding contribution to the municipal IT environment, as well as a lifetime membership to MISA BC.
