He was predeceased by: his parents, Harris Brown and Laila Brown (Ross); his former wife Charlotte Colley; his son Robert Johnston; his grandson Nathaniel Brown; his son-in-law William Fagan; and his siblings, Florence Brown, Muriel Slawter (late Ralph Slawter) and Clifford.

He is survived by: his wife Solveig Bertlin-Brown of Maple Ridge, B. C.; his children, Kanika (Sizwe), Martin, Harriet, James, Brenda, Constance, Lynn, Shawn (Valerie), Cheryl (Daniel), Linda (Franklin), Adrienne, Tamara and Shawna; and his siblings, Aubrey (Eva), Mayola (Clyde) and Evangeline (late Russell Thompson). He is also survived by 39 Grandchildren, 71 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Friday, March 7th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the East Preston United Baptist Church (206 Upper Partridge River Rd, East Preston, NS B2Z1H3).
