He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Matthew and Shirley Matthew; and his siblings, Gordon Matthew (Ann), Gay McLeod (John) and Lee Strandquist (Al).

He is survived by: his wife Lois Matthew; his children, Vicki Matthew (Robin), Debbie Couling (David), Liz Tokariuk (Gary) and Jim Matthew (Gail); his grandchildren, Jay Couling (Laura), Jesslynn Breitkreitz (Shane), Rebecca, Benjamin and Stephen Tokariuk; and his great grandchildren, Finley, Marlowe, Brynn and Lachlan Couling.
