He was predeceased by: his parents, Ingvald and Ingeborg; and his brother Fred. He is survived by: his wife Anne; his sons, Ron (Kim) and Richard; his grandchildren, Owen, Ted (Lauren), Gordon (Nadia), Nathan (Tammy), Natasha (Jesse) and Shelby (Jordon); and his close friend Jean McGauchie.

He donated generously to the geology program at Thompson Rivers University and was recently awarded a membership in its Presidents circle.
