He was predeceased by: his parents, William Backer and Elizabeth Backer; and his sister Evelyn. He is survived by: his wife Emi; his children, Julie, Karen Reimer (Kevin), Nancy and Mark; his grandchildren, Owen, Sophie, Ashley and Jayden; his sisters, Eleanor Lutz (Calvin) and Marlene Sanders (Rae); and his brother-in-law John Reidl (Ruth).
