He was predeceased by: his parents, Patricia Olson and Arthur Olson. He is survived by: his wife Melanie; his children, Dean (Carmen), Carrie and Cindy; his stepchildren, Trevor (Sabine) and Tracy (Greg); his grandchildren, Mitchell (Paige), Kaitlynn, Justin, Ashley, Jackson, Helena and Lianna; his great grandchildren, Indie, Mabyn and Zayda; and his siblings, Albert (Holly) and MaryAnn (Fred).

Later in life as he was diagnosed with dementia, he offered his leadership to the Alzheimer's Society, and "Minds in Motion" program to show others there is life after a dementia diagnosis.
