He was predeceased by: his mother Susan Hines; his stepfather Norman Hines; his wife Mary Agnes; his siblings, Regina, Kevin, Doreen, Walter, William, Phonse and Michael; his siblings-in-law, George, Don, Roy, Jim, Louise, Rhea and Harriett; his son-in-law Vilis; and his father Stephen Bennett.

He is survived by: his children, Charlene (Ron), Patricia, Gerry (Gay) and Daniel; his grandchildren, Lee (Christa), Laura (Jesse), Abby (Aaron), Adam (Diana), Karmen, Yusef (Suad), Colin (Jaclyn) and Lindsay; his great grandchildren, Noah, Yaseen, Ruth, Harvey, Zacharia, Aliyah, Jack, Everleigh and Kade; his siblings-in-law, Richard, Bill (Sandy), Rick, Elaine (Doug), Colette and Crystal; his sisters, Bonnie, Debbie and Phyllis; and his niece Heather. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
