Jeanette (Loiselle) Oglove Obituary
Jeanette Oglove (Loiselle)
February 28, 1940 – February 3, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jeanette Oglove (Loiselle), a beautiful and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt. Jeanette passed away peacefully on February 3rd, just 25 days shy of her 85th birthday.
She is survived by her two sons, Chad (Chrisanne) and Trevor (Mellany); her grandchildren, Christian (Katie), Nicholas, Mackenzie (Tristan), Jay, Burt, Tom, and Chai; as well as great-grandchildren Theo, Juniper, and Nora. Jeanette is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Janice, Eleanore (Bill), and Rita, and her nieces, Marnie (Dylan), Carlee (Brent), Andrea (Rawle), and Allison (Dez).
Born on February 28, 1940, in Dawson Creek to Romeo and Florence (Haugen) Loiselle, Jeanette’s early years on the family farm were often challenging but always full of adventure. Even at just nine years old, she was trusted with big responsibilities—like leading their massive cow, Jane, down to the stream for water. One day, as Jane began sinking slightly in the mud, Jeanette became convinced she was trapped in quicksand. Thinking fast, she sent her five-year-old sister, Janice, running for help. She clung heroically to Jane’s leash, certain she alone had saved Jane's life. And we like to think, Jane would think so, too.
After graduating from Notre Dame High School in 1958, Jeanette moved to Whitehorse, where she worked as a telephone operator for Northwestel. During this time, she had the honour of connecting and listening in on the historical phone call between President JFK and Prime Minister Diefenbaker on July 22, 1961, a moment she fondly reminisced about. Jeanette later spent 33 years with BC Tel/Telus, holding a variety of senior positions.
In her life, Jeanette found immense joy in her family. She had two sons, Chad and Trevor, and later became a single parent after her husband’s passing. Jeanette gave her boys everything she had to give, and in return, they blessed her with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her so much love and happiness. She cherished every moment spent with them.
After retirement, Jeanette moved back to Dawson Creek, where she enjoyed being close to her mother, Florence, and son, Chad, and watching her grandchildren grow. In her later years, Jeanette moved to Coquitlam to be close to her son, Trevor, and his partner Mellany and her children.
A passionate genealogist, Jeanette spent countless hours researching her family’s history and created beautiful, detailed ancestry books, which became treasured gifts for each of her sisters. Her love for preserving family stories was a testament to her generous heart. Jeanette was also a fierce Canasta player, renowned for her perfectly aligned melds! Her family will always remember her for the fun she brought to the card table.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, providing her with comfort and strength through the years. She found joy in reading and studying her Bible, a source of solace throughout her life.
Jeanette will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and loving soul who touched the hearts of all who knew her. A lover of sweets, she could often be caught with both hands in the candy dish! Her flawless skin, with not a wrinkle in sight, was often remarked upon, and she will forever be known for her tender and beautiful spirit.
Jeanette will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
We love you, Jeanette.
