He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred and Gerda; and his siblings, Gladys Nielsen and Holger "Hal" Sorensen of Wetaskiwin. He is survived by: his sons, Niel Sorensen of Wetaskiwin and Gary Sorensen (Ellie) of Red Deer; his grandson Ty Sorensen; and his siblings, Edwin Sorensen (Karen) of Wetaskiwin, Arne Sorensen (Alice) of Camrose and Elsie Sherwin of Camrose.

If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Swen's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or to the charity of one's choice.
