He was predeceased by: his wife Olga; his son George; his former wife Frieda; his parent Wilhelm; and his brother Willie.
He is survived by: his close friend Marga Jaegli; his daughters, Marlene Hitesman (David) and Rita Walker (Donald) of Edmonton; his grandchildren, Christine (Steve), Candace (Marc), Dean (Mercedes) and Geoff (Haley); his great grandchildren, Isabella, Henry, Charlotte, Walter, Vaughn, Mateus, Noah, Hazel and Jacob; and his sisters, Leokadia of Germany and Hilma of Edmonton.
