He was predeceased by: his parents, Gus Nelson and Barbara Nelson; his daughter Monique; his brothers, Leonard and Donald; and his granddaughter Monique Benoit.

He is survived by: his children, Janice Benoit, Maurice Benoit, Tracy McHale, Mike McHale, Shaun, Patrick, Ryan, Brent, Nathalie Boudreault, Marc-Antoine Bansept and Edward Nelson; his sisters, Joan Jones and Gail Smith; and his wife Ruth Tunney. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
