He was predeceased by: his wife Marjorie Shelstad; his granddaughter Jessie Blodgett; his parents, Arthur Shelstad and Anne Shelstad; and his sister Marlis Buck.

He is survived by: his children, Joy Blodgett (Buck) of Hartford, Ken Shelstad (Monica) of Taber, Kathy Deleff (Don) of Red Deer, Denise Jetter (Lawrence) of Lethbridge and Mark Shelstad (Nadine) of Grande Prairie; his grandchildren, Melissa, Nicholas, Diamond, Adam, Nicole, Joshua, Logan, Nathan and Ashton; and his siblings, Wayne Shelstad (Audrey) and Gayle Baraniuk (Garry). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
