He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick and Doris; and his brother Rick. He is survived by: his wife Linda Johnston; his siblings, Glen Johnston (Joanne) of Edmonton and Lee Johnston (Mark) of Linden; his children, Christopher Johnston and Jennifer Smith (Greg); his stepdaughter Christine Andrew; his grandchildren, Zackary Johnston and Elora Smith; his nieces and nephews, Gary Johnston (Raeanne) of Peterborough, Kurt Johnston (Madisson), Jaime Brown, Nicole Johnston and Taylor Baker-Johnston; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Sirani Brown, Kemar Brown, Latavia Brown, Lillianna Curie-Johnston and Emily Curie-Johnston; and his friends, Gigi Nicholson of Regina, SK and John Walker of Montreal, QC..
