She was predeceased by: her parents, Nellie Thiessen and John Thiessen; and her siblings, Alice and Fred Thiessen. She is survived by: her sons, Kurt Sims (Julie) and Clint Sims (Laurel); her grandchildren, Maxwell, Marshall, Erica, Connor and Adam Sims; and her siblings, John Thiessen (Elaine), Mary Slimmon (Tom), Werner Thiessen and Hedy Mayes (Ron). She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Strathmore District Hospital where Vera spent the majority of her nursing career (200 Brent Boulevard, Strathmore, Alberta T1P 1J9).
