Don Meredith wrote a sympathy message

“I've known Leighton for many years through his work with the Stony Plain Fish and Game Association, and am proud to have called him a friend. He led many work parties to steward the AFGA trust fund lands for which our club was responsible. He also spent many hours teaching school students about building bird houses and the importance of wildlife habitat to everyone's well being. He was a passionate outdoors person, who hunted, fished and trapped, and sought to instil that passion others, especially youth. He will be sorrowfully missed. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Leighton.”
