She was predeceased by: her husband James Hanna; her parents, John Heikkinen and Mary Heikkinen; her siblings, Ron Heikkinen, John and Dorothy; and her nephew Doug Heikkinen.

She is survived by: her brother Ronald Edward; her husband Echo Bay Mines; her former husband Carl Pethick; her son Jim Hanna of Montreal; her grandchildren, James, Katya and Sandy; her sisters-in-law, Thelma Heikkinen, Aina Merritt of Thunder Bay and Sadie Hanna of Ireland; and her niece Thelma Heikkinen. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and other relatives.

Donations in Ruth's name can be made to the Kidney Foundation, in honour of her sister Dorothy, who fell to kidney failure at a far too young age.
