Darrell Roddick Obituary
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our dear son and brother, Darrell George Roddick, at the age of 68 years. Darrell passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Darrell was born on August 1, 1955 to William and Violet Roddick in Tofield, Alberta. He lived most of his life on the family farm in Ministik, not far from where he was born.
He began his working career with his dad with Strathcona County, continuing on with various companies in the oilfield over the years. At the time of his passing, he was a finishing grader operator with Thompson Brothers in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Darrell was an avid fisherman and hunter, spending as much time as possible with his dear friends doing what he loved most. Hunting for goose, duck, moose, deer or elk were among his favourites. He didn't mind the hard work involved in setting out the hundreds of decoys he had collected over the years or the hours spent in the bush waiting for that particular deer he had been watching. He always said, "That's why it's called hunting, not gathering.". He also loved fishing and it didn't matter where he was doing it, whether it was from a boat catching salmon on the coast bonding with his buddies or standing on the edge of his own stocked pond helping his little great niece or nephew catch their very first fish. He found just as much joy in the process as he did with those he shared that process with.
Darrell is predeceased by his father, William; sister-in-law Gonnie; brother-in-law Gary; and his brother, John. He is survived by his mother, Violet; brother Larry (Brenda); sisters Brenda and Leona; nieces and nephews who will all miss his loving heart.
Darrell will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Donations, if so desired, can be made to Sherwood Park Fish and Game Association or to the charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Darrell's life will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at South Cooking Lake Hall. 22106 South Cooking Lake Road.
Condolences from family and friends.
