He is survived by: his wife Laurie Schochenmaier; his children, Eddy McKenzie and Shyla Christensen; his grandchildren, Wyatt and Cassidy; his siblings, Tom (Tracy), Randy (Lana), Darren McKenzie (Angela), Tricia Dahms, Bonnie Perreault (Gil), Linda Collingson (Scott) and Shelley Schenk (Kelly); and his sister-in-law Sandi McKenzie.

A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, December 5th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the St. Matthew Church (5208 53 Ave, Rocky Mountain House, AB T4T1A1).

“Skyline Hikers of the Canadian Rockies held its 2024 annual hiking camp at David Thompson Resort. Ron was key to the enjoyment of our hikers in camp, as he swung into our group campsite in the golf-cart a couple of times a day to make sure everything was alright, especially on weekends when nobody was onsite. His dry sense of humour and care for our campers was much appreciated, and will be missed by those who explore the Kootenay Plains. RIP, Ron!”
