Eleanor Hilda (Quibell) Harrington Obituary
.It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Eleanor Hilda Harrington (Quibell), June 12th, 2020.
Eleanor was born January 16th, 1940 to Roland and Mabel Quibell and had 12 siblings. Eleanor was raised in Lindsay Ontario, and moved out west to reside in Calgary AB in 1959 to start her family.
Eleanor (known by most as Ellie) is survived by her 3 children and their spouses Matthew Harrington (Gloria), Catherine Guindon, Paula Fell (Dave). 9 Grandchildren Sherri-Ann, Dane, Shane, Brian, Jennifer, Anali, Sheldon, Courtney, Chad, and their significant spouses. Ellie was also blessed with 12 Great Grandchildren.
Ellie was a quiet and sweet lady, and will be kindly remembered by surviving brothers, sisters, many nieces, nephews, and additional extended family and friends.
Ellie worked for Sears Canada, starting in the wool department, then moved into the candy/smoke section, and advancing into the office as an adjuster. When Sear’s office relocated to BC, Ellie took the chance and moved out there to give it a try. Moving back to Calgary a few years later to be closer to family and friends.
Over the years Ellie had enjoyed different activities, bowling, darts, swimming, yoga. Ellie was always up for a night out at Bingo, a game of cards or a Yahtzee game, a euchre tournament with family and friends. In her later years Ellie took up puzzling, and find a words to keep her mind and hands busy.
On a whim Ellie joined an evening knitting course , and over the years knitted & crocheted many beautiful blankets, hats, mitts, toques, slippers, doll clothes, dollies to give as gifts to very appreciated family and friends.
Mom always enjoyed her time spent with the family and friends, rather it be special occasions, just a visit for tea & cookies, going shopping for the afternoon, heading out for a meal to her favorite restaurant, watching a good movie.
During her later years, Mom moved out to Rocky Mountain House where she loved the beautiful landscape, and enjoyed the peace and quiet of a small town. Mom spent two years living with her daughter and spouse, along with the two cats which Mom grew attached to (tiger loved to ride and sleep in the basket on her walker. even continued to do this when Mom came for a visit later) which always made Mom smile. As Mom required additional assistance, she moved to the Clear Water Centre, meeting new people, making new friends and was well liked and cared for by the Nursing Staff and Caregivers.
The family would like extend their thanks to all the staff of Clear Water Center, the attending Dr’s and especially Dr Dowling for providing the care that Mom was given during her time there and at the end, you are very special people.
Rest in Peace you will be missed.
There will be no service as per Ellie’s request.
They call me Grandma Ellie and I was dancing with the cowboys.
